DIY Mini Mother’s Day Cards (feat. Sara Kim!) | GLDN

You've found the perfect Mother's Day gift. Now you just need a thoughtful Mother's Day card to go with it. OK, maybe you're still shopping for gifts—but roll with us here.
You could purchase a premade card from a big corporation (*cue booing track*) or you could make a meaningful card for Mom with step-by-step guidance from Sara Kim: paper artist extraordinaire.
Ahead: how to hand-make mini tulip cards with just a few supplies (most of which you already have at home). Not crafty in the slightest? She even shares a printable template at the bottom. 😏
Why To Give Mom a Mini Tulip Card
Sara's been making these 2D mini paper tulips for a while now, and they never fail to make her and her recipients smile. There’s something so satisfying about piecing them together—each petal layered like a tiny puzzle—and they mean infinitely more than something you might grab from a store on your way to your Mother's Day get-together.
To make them extra special, she paints the card stock with soft watercolors before assembling. The watercolors give the flowers a gentle, handmade feel that really pops once everything’s dry and glued down. Totally optional, but this really takes it over the top!
What You’ll Need:
- Cardstock paper (for petals, stem, and leaves)
- Watercolor paints + brush
- Scissors or cutting machine
- White glue (here's her favorite!)
- 2D layered flower template
- Free print + envelope template
How to Make It:
-
Cut your tulip pieces out of cardstock. You’ll need a few petals, a stem, and two leaves for each flower.
-
Paint each piece with watercolor and let them dry completely. Sara suggests blending a few shades of pink or orange for a natural look.
-
Once dry, assemble the tulip pieces on your card, layering the petals and leaves with a bit of white glue. Think of it like a puzzle—each piece overlaps slightly.
-
Sara used two tulips for her design and placed them off-center for a little visual interest.
-
Add them to your mini card base—and just like that, you have the sweetest handmade gift!
Not Feeling Crafty? Sara's Got You.
If you’re short on time or don’t feel like painting and gluing (life's busy, we know), she created a printable version from a photo of her finished card. She designed it multiple styles so you can simply print, fold and go. 🖨️
She also included a printable envelope template. Just fold down the side and bottom tabs, apply glue and seal it shut after you tuck the card inside.

Thanks, Sara!
