More premium than traditional gold plating, vermeil is an extra thick layer of real gold over solid sterling silver. We use 14k or 18k gold depending on the piece.

    After a few weeks of wearing, silver discolored and grew rough to the touch. Polishing cloth failed to make a difference and at this point can only exchange for credit. I have never experienced this before with my sterling silver pieces and expected more from a piece at this price.
